Manchester United in talks with Galatasaray over potential Casemiro loan
Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Turkish club Galatasaray over a potential loan deal for midfielder Casemiro.
The Reds have had a rocky start to the new season, with only one Premier League win in their first three games.
A tough 3-0 loss to rivals Liverpool on Sunday came after a last-minute defeat to Brighton last weekend.
While the opening win against Fulham showed some promise, Erik ten Hag’s team still has a lot of room for improvement.
Casemiro has been heavily criticised for his display against Liverpool, where he was replaced at half-time after costing the team two goals in the first half.
United wanted to sell the Brazilian during the summer transfer window but no bids were forthcoming for the midfielder on a hefty wage packet.
However, new information from Turkish reporter Ali Naci Küçük has stated that Galatasaray have contacted Casemiro about joining the club to bolster their midfield.
It was added that the Super Lig club are in talks with those at Old Trafford for a potential year-long loan deal.
The journalist reported on a bid made for Scott McTominay from the Turkish side earlier in the summer, which was later repeated by English journalists.
However, there are some obvious talking points about any potential exit for Casemiro.
Despite the 32-year-old’s form, he is a player who has started the opening four games of the season for United and even with Manuel Ugarte coming in, he would be the third choice behind him and Kobbie Mainoo.
Christian Eriksen and Toby Collyer are the only other deeper midfield options in the squad, and neither of those players can be trusted to start regularly if injuries to Mainoo or Ugarte occur.
A solution could be that the Reds enter the market for a free agent, with Adrien Rabiot still available. The Frenchman has been regularly linked to United over the last few years.
Sekou Kone also joined Old Trafford in the summer but United want to bed the 18-year-old into the country and club slowly. Should he be ready for first-team action by January, then United may be prepared for a mid-season exit for someone like Casemiro.
Lastly, the wage split seems like it would cause a major issue in any deal for Casemiro. United are already paying part of Jadon Sancho’s wages whilst at Chelsea and would be unlikely to offer to pay much of Casemiro’s.
The Turkish transfer window is open until September 13 and so there could be potential developments for this story in the coming days.
