Manchester United are said to be in “pole position” to sign one Serie A midfielder after to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Ruben Amorim has only signed two players during his short time at Manchester United, but both have impressed when given the chance.
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu joined from Lecce in January and has since become United’s starting left-wing-back after several impressive performances.
Ayden Heaven also joined in January, leaving Arsenal and following in the footsteps of his long-time teammate Chido Obi. Heaven suffered an injury against Leicester City but was arguably one of United’s best players before his setback.
Amorim’s unique 3-4-3 system demands different attributes from other tactical setups, especially from the double-pivot in midfield.
Casemiro has begun to cement himself as a starter, but many believe the Brazilian will leave in the summer, with United needing someone more mobile to cover ground quickly.
“Offer expected in coming weeks” for Ederson
As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, United are in “pole position” to sign Atalanta’s Ederson, who has just two years left on his current contract.
United are said to have shown concrete interest in the 25-year-old and “an offer is expected in the coming weeks”.
While no transfer fee is reported, Transfermarkt say Ederson’s market value is approximately €50 million and La Dea say the fee will be closer to €60 million.
The Brazilian midfielder is held in high regard by many, including former England manager Fabio Capello, who described Ederson as “out of this world.”
Manchester City are also said to be interested in Ederson but are waiting to see if they qualify for the Champions League before making a firm decision.
Casemiro and Eriksen set to leave
With the potential signing of Ederson, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen both look set to leave United this summer.
While Casemiro has seen a recent increase in playing time, Eriksen has struggled for minutes under Amorim and looks destined for a move away for more first-team minutes.
Should he join, Ederson could eventually line up alongside Kobbie Mainoo, who will be looking to regain his spot in the starting team after a spell on the sidelines due to injury.
