Manchester United has reportedly proceeded with internal discussions with an English forward who has what it takes to fit into Ruben Amorim’s program.
Inconsistency is the perfect word to describe Manchester United’s form this season through various competitions.
While the Red Devils have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, their performances in the Premier League have not at all met the expectations.
Ruben Amorim had a fair share of problems since his arrival at the club, but the biggest objective for him is to acquire a consistent goal scorer in the team.
There are various options the club have been linked with to try and solve the goalscoring issues at Old Trafford, but United seem to have the best answer in the form of a £40 million English forward.
United hold talks over Delap deal
Reports suggest that United are in advanced internal talks over a deal for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who has stood out in his debut Premier League campaign.
As per the Daily Mail, a summer move for Delap is on the cards as United are the favourites to acquire the signature of the Ipswich no.9 at the end of the season.
If the Tractor Boys, who are 12 points behind safety in the table, are relegated at the end of the season, a £40m release clause will be active for the player.
While United already has forward options in the form of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, Amorim’s side desperately needs a consistent goal-scorer. This is where Delap comes in.
United are not alone in the race to sign Delap
While the Old Trafford hierarchy had advanced internal talks over the 22-year-old striker, their rivals Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Chelsea are also closely monitoring the situation.
Looking at it from a different perspective, both Chelsea and Liverpool seem to be tempting options for the young forward due to their likely participation in Champions League next season.
As the situation stands, United will be hoping that Jason Wilcox, who worked with Delap at Manchester City, can persuade the talented forward to join United at the end of the season.
There are some question marks over United signing yet another young striker, but Delap is slightly different to the likes of Højlund and Zirkzee as he has experience in the Premier League.
