Manchester United have dealt Premier League club “bad news” as Rúben Amorim swoops in to secure “fantastic” star

With multiple Premier League clubs chasing the signature of Liam Delap, it is reported that the young Englishman would prefer a move to Manchester United this summer.

As he comes to the end of his first season in the Premier League, Liam Delap has caught the attention of England’s elites with an impressive 12 goals despite his side getting relegated.

With Ipswich heading back to the Championship, Delap’s £30m relegation release clause has become a prominent topic, causing clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea to start chasing his signature.

Ruben Amorim’s side are due for a massive overhaul in the summer, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, which will see many new faces walk through the doors at Old Trafford.

One of the key areas for improvement at United is their attacking arsenal, as they will look to drastically improve their abysmal goalscoring form next season.

Delap’s intention is to sign for United

Whilst appearing as a guest on the London Is Blue Podcast, transfer insider Ben Jacobs has stated that there could be “bad news” for Chelsea regarding their pursuit of Delap.

Jacobs said that Delap is “quite intent on going back to the north west”, and United winning the Europa League could potentially be a very influential factor with Amorim looking to swoop in and secure the “fantastic” player as his new first-choice striker.

He continued by saying, “United sources say they don’t need outgoings. And it’s not to say that Delap doesn’t appreciate the Chelsea pitch and he’s very well known to people like Enzo Maresca and also Joe Shields.”

This news will be music to the ears of United’s higher-ups who will be desperate for some new firepower in the summer, however, it puts even more pressure on their Europa League final to save their season.

What would Delap bring to United?

With Delap being a very young and still raw prospect, there will be many question marks as to whether he will be able to adapt his game to play at a top club.

Former United star Teddy Sheringham weighed in on this transfer, saying, “Liam Delap to Manchester United? I don’t think it really matters what type of striker is at the club.

“Unless you’re going to get a phenomenal Erling Haaland that scores at every opportunity, I think they need to work on the service to the striker more than which striker is playing, because strikers need service.”

A positive for United, however, will be that Delap has already shown his proficiency in a side that doesn’t create many chances. Amorim’s side will certainly aim to create far more chances for their attackers next season.
