Rúben Amorim is looking to add to his midfield line this summer, with Manchester United having been linked to Palmeiras star Richard Rios.
Manchester United are looking to add a new midfielder to their ranks this summer after it was identified as a problem area under Rúben Amorim last season.
Although Casemiro’s form was positive toward the end of last season, doubts surround whether he can maintain this form consistently next campaign. Similarly, there is no guarantee that Manuel Ugarte will be able to hold his form, either.
United are currently focusing their attention on signing new forward talent, with Matheus Cunha through the door and negotiations for Bryan Mbeumo continuing.
The club also want to add a striker to their ranks, but will need to sanction sales before a centre-forward and midfielder can be secured.
United interested in Palmeiras star Rios
Richard Rios, 25, caught the eye with his performances for Palmeiras at the Club World Cup, even providing an assist in their 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Chelsea.
United were previously linked with the Brazilian midfielder last summer, but Palmeiras were unwilling to sell for less than his £85 million release clause.
Fresh reports now suggest that United remain keen and are considering a bid following Rios’ return from the United States.
According to those reports, United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, and head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, had scouts monitoring Rios during the tournament.
Several other Premier League clubs are also said to be interested, while Inter Milan and AS Roma are reportedly exploring the possibility of a move.
United dealt warning amid £26m bid
With United reportedly considering a bid, the club have been dealt an immediate warning with Serie A side Roma reportedly readying a bid totalling around £26 million, including add-ons.

According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla, Rios is the Giallorossi’s primary target for the midfield position. However, the South American club have communicated the message that they are looking for a fixed £26 million fee plus bonuses, so they will likely reject Roma’s bid.
Further, Pedulla explains that the player himself is unsure about moving to Roma, and wishes to assess all his options before making a final decision on where he would like to play next season.
Roma are the only side currently in talks for the Colombian international, but this does not discount United from potentially entering into negotiations in the coming days.
