Manchester United fan group release statement with Sir Jim Ratcliffe demand
Manchester United fan group, The Red Army, has released a statement demanding that Sir Jim Ratcliffe keeps Erik ten Hag in charge.
Ten Hag, 54, has been in charge at United since the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign and has won two trophies at Old Trafford.
The FA Cup final victory against Manchester City saved the season for United and Ten Hag last weekend. They finished eighth in the Premier League and were knocked out of the Champions League group stage.
However, the cup victory has increased the general fan opinion that the Dutchman should stay at the club for another season.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has refused to offer any assurances to Ten Hag in public and did not refer to the manager in his statement after the FA Cup final win. He ignored reporters in the mixed zone at Wembley who asked about the manager’s future.
However, one of the club’s most prominent fan groups, ‘The Red Army’, has sent a clear message to the new co-owner at Old Trafford, urging him to keep Ten Hag.
The Red Army is the largest independent supporters’ group of the club. To maximise the atmosphere, a section of the Stretford End at Old Trafford is dedicated to members.
They have told Ratcliffe to “do the right thing” by sticking with Ten Hag despite rumours that the club have met potential candidates to be his replacement.
A statement posted on X, formally known as Twitter, read: “Sir Jim, if you care about the match going fans (and proper Utd everywhere), you’ll stand by our manager. We want him to stay, do the right thing.”
Ten Hag has gone on holiday following the FA Cup win, while the club are now set to go through an internal process where they decide the best course of action.
