Manchester United eyeing move for “brilliant” Real Madrid star to fix Rúben Amorim’s biggest issue

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim is said to be keen on signing a Real Madrid player, as Manchester United need midfield depth.

Manchester United need to sign new midfielders this summer, with Rúben Amorim having not signed a new player in the middle of the park since he joined the club in November 2024.

The Portuguese head coach currently employs a two-man midfield, having the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte as options, although he has previously stated that Mason Mount could also play there, too.

But, with Casemiro’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, and the long-term futures of Mainoo, Ugarte, and Fernandes all in question, the club will have to sign new midfielders.

There have been strong links to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but following the quote of his £100 million price tag and United’s need for multiple reinforcements, other options are also being explored.

Alonso’s arrival at Real Madrid has affected Camavinga

Eduardo Camavinga has been a stalwart name in football circles for years, following his breakout season at Rennes in 2019, where he became their youngest-ever first-team player. He then signed for Real Madrid for around £27 million in 2021, with his current contract set to run until 2029.

However, as reported by CaughtOffside, the 22-year-old France international’s future is now in doubt, with Camavinga’s situation having changed since Xabi Alonso took over the squad.

He has played just one minute in La Liga so far this season due to suffering a sprained right ankle in August, but with Madrid having won all five league games this season without him, his role at the club could be reduced even once he returns.

Camavinga would certainly be an astute signing for United, as they need a quality midfielder to partner Fernandes, and seemingly have the resources to meet the reported £70 million asking price.

There’s no doubt that the “brilliant” star’s physicality and technical attributes, as well as big-game experience, will translate well to the Premier League, which would go a long way to fix Amorim’s biggest issue, which is the lack of physical presence in midfield.

United facing competition for Camavinga

According to the report above, United are one of many clubs that could look to sign Camavinga amid the uncertainty about the Frenchman’s place in the team.

While United are still focusing on signing Baleba next summer, Camavinga could certainly be a tempting route to pursue, with Camavinga valued at around £70 million.

However, it’s stated that Newcastle are also keeping a close eye on the developing situation, while Chelsea have established a concrete interest in Camavinga.

United have also been linked with multiple other midfield signings for the 2026 summer window, with the likes of Adam Wharton reportedly on Rúben Amorim’s radar.
