Manchester United are closing in on finalising another loan deal after their first January transfer move came last week.

Ruben Amorim is optimistic that Manchester United will bolster their first-team squad with new signings this month.

The manager has faced a challenging start, with just four wins in 12 matches, underscoring the pressing need for reinforcements.

A left wing-back remains the top priority, while adding a striker would also provide a significant boost. However, the club must rely on player sales to fund any transfers.

Additionally, United are expected to utilise the loan market for young prospects, following Ethan Ennis’ recent move to Doncaster Rovers.

Williams loan move will be “finalised imminently”

Ethan Williams is another academy player who looks set to depart United on loan during the January transfer window.

According to a report from MailOnline, the talented winger is set to head out on loan to League Two this month, with a move expected to be “finalised imminently”.

It was explained that League One clubs Stockport County and Leyton Orient had shown interest in Williams.

But the Reds are pleased to find Williams an “ideal landing spot” in League Two, where the teenager will likely get more game-time to develop his game.

This was a similar case for Ennis, who had options in higher leagues but moved to League Two outfit Doncaster Rovers.

United have been criticised for their loan choices for young talent in previous years but they appear to be paying close attention under the new regime at Old Trafford.

Wilcox influence with academy moves

Jason Wilcox joined United last year as the club’s new technical director and he has since taken on even more responsibility since Dan Ashworth departed towards the the end of last year.

Wilcox worked previously as the Academy Director at Manchester City, where he helped develop talents such as Phil Foden and Cole Palmer.

City have become known for getting impressive fees for their youngsters, partly due to their effective loan deals.

Wilcox led that process and while his main responsibilities aren’t on the Academy at Old Trafford, he could still be having an influence.

Head of Academy Nick Cox has also had a large influence at Carrington in recent years, with the running of the youth teams improving over the last few seasons.
