Manchester United exit “is gaining ground as the hours pass” – Rúben Amorim failure can “explode” at a new club next season

One Manchester United exit is reportedly gaining momentum as Rúben Amorim looks to completely overhaul his current squad at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are placing a strong emphasis on player sales this summer as Rúben Amorim begins rebuilding his squad at Old Trafford.

The club have already completed a £62.5 million move for Matheus Cunha from Wolves and remain in negotiations with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, though their opening bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was turned down.

United are still looking to bring in a striker and a midfielder, and a move for a goalkeeper is also under consideration. Several players are set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the month, with further departures expected as Amorim reshapes the squad.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho are all set to leave this summer, while uncertainty continues to surround the future of striker Rasmus Højlund.

Højlund’s exit to Italy is gaining ground

Højlund’s first season at United was an overall positive one following his £72 million move from Atalanta in August 2023. Although it took him 14 games to score his first Premier League goal, his record in Europe allowed him to end the season as the club’s top scorer, with 16 to his name.

However, although he added another ten this season, his overall performances have been criticised by spectators, with many concluding that after his 95 competitive appearances for United, he is not good enough to make the starting line-up and has failed to assimilate to life under Amorim.

The 22-year-old Danish international has been linked with a return to Italy this summer, with Inter Milan said to be very keen on adding him to their forward list.

According to the Italian outlet Gazzetta, his exit from United is now “gaining ground as the hours pass” and Inter want to offer him the chance to “explode” in Italy once again, just as he did at Atalanta three seasons ago.

United are starting to struggle for a Højlund replacement

While Cunha’s arrival and Mbeumo’s potential transfer have been relatively smooth so far, due to both players having a clear preference to sign for United, they are starting to encounter difficulties in luring a new striker to Old Trafford this summer.

The club’s first-choice, Liam Delap, opted to sign for Chelsea instead, while reports suggest that Amorim’s former striker at Sporting CP, Viktor Gyökeres, would prefer to play for Arsenal.

Back-up transfer option Jean-Philippe Mateta is close to signing a new contract with Crystal Palace, meaning that United may have no choice but to get creative.

Reports from England have revealed that Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is very keen on signing for the Red Devils and will be available for around £25 million this summer.

Victor Osimhen is also said to be dreaming of a move to Old Trafford this summer, but Amorim’s club have already decided that his contract demands are too high for the club to meet.
