Manchester United enter new contract negotiations as Sergio Reguilón leaves Old Trafford
Manchester United are entering fresh contract negotiations with academy star Shola Shortire as Sergio Reguilón leaves Old Trafford after six months on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Sergio Reguilón joined Manchester United on deadline day in the summer on a one-year loan deal after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both suffered long-term injuries before the transfer window shut.
The Spanish left-back joined from Tottenham Hotspur and made 12 appearances at the club, becoming a fan favourite in the process – but his time at Old Trafford has now come to an end.

This is according to The Athletic, which explains that as Shaw is back from injury (barring a recent minor knock) and Malacia is nearing his own return, there is no longer a need for Reguilón. Shaw is expected to be fit once again by the time United next plays, in the FA Cup on 8 January.
As the club have been knocked out of both European competition and the Carabao Cup, United are set to have a decreased schedule for the second half of the season, meaning that having three left-backs is now surplus to requirements.
Meanwhile, United have also entered preliminary negotiations with Shola Shoretire over a new contract, according to the Manchester Evening News.
It is said that the club would like Shoretire to head out on loan in January in order for the player to gain more first-team experience after he received interest from Championship clubs and abroad last summer, with United blocking a loan move in the final days of the window at Ten Hag’s request.
Shoretire is said to be keen to leave in January on loan to get game time, and United are also keen to get a new contract signed in order to protect his value in case he is sold permanently in the summer.
