Manchester United drew 0-0 against Norweigan side Rosenborg in their opening pre-season friendly this summer and one starlet stood out in the game.

Erik ten Hag’s side travelled to the Lerkendal Stadion on Monday afternoon for an important game in which many players would get minutes on the pitch.

Various first-team players, such as Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, and Casemiro, played the opening 45 minutes alongside some youth talent.

In the second half, it was an academy-based team, with several United players impressing Ten Hag and his coaching staff.

However, it was 17-year-old midfielder Sverre Halseth Nypan on the Norweigan team who caught the eye of many watching.

The young talent was very impressive during his first-half performance, and it has been reported by Attacking Football, as per Academy Scoop, that United are interested in signing the teenager after he turns 18 years old in December.

Christopher Michel has also stated that he expects United to hold discussions with Rosenborg in relation to a transfer for Nypan.

Ten Hag has already shown that he will give talented youth prospects opportunities at Old Trafford, and he explained his latest message to the academy stars before the game on Monday.

When asked what he wants to see from the youngsters, he said: “At least, I want to see they’re acting like Manchester United [players], so hard to beat, team spirit, showing energy, intensity.

“That is the least I expect, but I told them in my team talk, which I gave yesterday, look at the Copa America final involving Alejandro Garnacho [for Argentina].

“Unfortunately, he didn’t play and that’s his next challenge, to become a starting XI player, like Lisandro Martinez has, and the Euro final yesterday with Kobbie Mainoo.

“Last season in the same game [first pre-season match], Kobbie Mainoo was part of it, so for them it’s also possible, but they have to earn the right to play in the first-team of Manchester United. You don’t get it – you have to earn it. We have a mixed group and the senior players must get match fitness and guide the youngsters, help and support them.”
