Manchester United could sanction two transfers before Rúben Amorim’s Reds travel to face Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
The 2025 summer transfer window is entering its final full week of action as Premier League clubs look to scramble their final transfer deals over the line.
Manchester United have so far signed four players, three of whom have been transfers over £60 million, and all of whom are seen as having added crucial talent to Rúben Amorim’s squad..
Attacking trio Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško have joined for a combined fee of over £200 million, while the club have also signed young left-back Diego Leon.
With just days left, Amorim is also looking to bring goalkeeper Senne Lammens to Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp, while United are also hoping for multiple exits before the window shuts on Monday, 1 September at 19:00 BST.
Lammens transfer to be finalised this week
On Sunday, it was announced that Lammens would not be in Antwerp’s squad for their fixture against Mechelen, which transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained was due to his impending move to United.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist explained that Lammens’ move to United is in its “final stage”, with his contract at Old Trafford already agreed.
The two clubs are in formal talks over a final transfer fee. United’s current offer for Lammens reportedly sits at around £17 million, but the Belgian side is holding out for a fee closer to £22 million, meaning United may need to add a few add-ons to their current offer to secure the 23-year-old.
Although Lammens would be joining an already stacked goalkeeper department, it has been reported elsewhere that this does not necessarily mean either André Onana or Altay Bayındır, the current first and second-choice in the position, are leaving.
With United aware that Onana will not be playing over the festive period due to the Africa Cup of Nations, they want to ensure they have plenty of cover and may revisit the goalkeeper situation in January.
Højlund to Napoli could be sanctioned early this week
With Lammens close to being signed, United could also sanction the outgoing of striker Rasmus Højlund to Napoli in the next few days.
According to reports from Italy late last week, Antonio Conte’s club have been engaging in formal talks with United over the previous week, and hope that an agreement or turning point in negotiations could be reached as early as Monday, which may mean United sanction Lammens’ signing and Højlund’s exit before the side play Grimsby Town on Wednesday.
In the last few days, Højlund has given Napoli his approval as a destination despite initially not wanting to leave United, but the two parties are still in talks over his salary.
Højlund has demanded that, if he ot leave United, he wants it to be on a loan with an obligation to buy rather than an option to buy, as he wants to know his long-term future is secured.
After a fantastic six months with Atalanta before moving to Old Trafford, Højlund is still highly rated in Italy by many. After a torrid two seasons at United, it could be the best way for him to rediscover his form as he covers for the injured Romelu Lukaku and competes with him when the Belgian returns.
