Manchester United could revisit “unbelievable” transfer target who Jason Wilcox loves after major price cut

Manchester United have received a transfer boost this summer as one of their transfer targets have had a major price cut to their valuation.

Despite cost-cutting headlines for the majority of the season, Manchester United have shown they are willing to spend big money this summer, having already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward joins Rúben Amorim’s side for £62.5 million, likely to become the starting left-sided attacking midfielder in the 3-4-2-1 system.

Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team have been looking for another attacking midfielder to play alongside Cunha, with Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford the top target.

However, Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s manager at the Bees, has now moved to Tottenham Hotspur and a move to North London now looks to be a real possibility.

Therefore, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team could now reignite their interest in previous targets that appeared to be too expensive before their price drop.

United remain interested in Dibling

Reports earlier in the summer indicated that Southampton’s Tyler Dibling could cost upwards of £85 million, with RB Leipzig seeing a bid of just under £30 million rejected.

However, since Southampton’s relegation, Dibling appears to have dropped in price, with the club now demanding closer to £50 million for the left-footed winger, reports Caught Offside.

United could be set to reignite their interest in Dibling if Mbeumo joins Tottenham, as they previously saw the English winger as an “investment opportunity for the future” and they were “closely monitoring” him.

Jason Wilcox previously worked with the winger, who has been described as an “unbelievable” ball-carrier, at St Mary’s when he was their football director.

However, Caught Offside have stated that the Red Devils are likely to continue to stay clear of Dibling unless the price drops even further.

Several other Premier League clubs are interested in Dibling, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United all considering a move for the winger. Spurs are also eyeing Dibling, but a move for him will likely only happen if Mbeumo doesn’t join them.

Fernandes to play deeper

With the signing of Cunha and the potential signings of Dibling or Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes looks set to drop into the deep midfield of Amorim’s team.

Fernandes played in the double pivot on several occasions last season, usually alongside Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte, but he continued to play in the front three, this is unlikely to happen next season.

Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount will be competing with Cunha and another signing in the attacking midfield roles, meaning Amad will also play deeper permanently.

Amorim will hope the role changes for key players like Amad and Fernandes will help improve the team next season, after such a poor Premier League campaign and disappointment in the Europa League final.
