Manchester United will likely be offered the opportunity to sign a highly-rated Bundesliga striker in the January transfer window.
Manchester United invested a significant sum of money to bring Benjamin Šeško to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window after a new striker was earmarked as a priority position following Rasmus Hojlund’s challenging 2024-25 campaign.
Liam Delap was initially United’s preferred target due to his £30 million release clause at Ipswich Town, but the former Manchester City player instead opted to move to Chelsea to reunite with Enzo Maresca.
United also strongly considered a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, but ultimately decided to proceed with a move for Benjamin Šeško, with Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell playing a significant role in the transfer.
Rúben Amorim could potentially dip back into the striker market in January amid doubts over Joshua Zirkzee’s future. The Dutch forward has played a minimal role so far this season and is said to be keen on a move away from Old Trafford in a last-ditch attempt to make Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup.
United could be offered Guirassy
Should Zirkzee depart United in the winter, Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy could potentially come under consideration at Old Trafford.
According to TeamTalk, Guirassy could be offered to United before the end of the season, amid beliefs that the Guinean international is open to a move away from Signal Iduna Park.
TeamTalk report that Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea are other English clubs that would have the opportunity to sign Guirassy. Still, it is United who could be more likely to be targeted by intermediaries. He has a special release clause, which several top clubs have the option to trigger.
While Guirassy himself might fancy a move to the red side of Manchester, the club has doubts. The report claims United may not want a striker of his profile because of the threat it would pose to Šeško, and they are wary of a transfer that could harm his progress and dent his confidence.
Guirassy would be a perfect signing
Hojlund arrived at Carrington in 2023 as one of the most highly rated strikers in Europe. United had to fend off strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain to secure the Dane’s signature.
His first season was quite positive as he found the back of the net 16 times, but his second season was abysmal. He, of course, has to take some blame, but so do United. When Amorim took over, it became clear that he viewed Zirkzee as more of a No. 10, as the Dutchman doesn’t suit the profile of striker Amorim wants.
This meant all the pressure was put onto Hojlund, despite it being very clear that he was struggling to cope with the expectation.
Šeško’s ceiling is higher than Hojlund’s, but United have to ensure they do not make the same mistake twice. Guirassy would perfectly add experience, depth and quality to Amorim’s squad.

The 29-year-old striker already attracted interest from United a few years ago when he was Vfb Stuttgart, and a transfer now would not harm Šeško’s development, but instead boost it.
Guirassy’s possible transfer would solve two of Amorim’s current issues. Firstly, he would ease the pressure on the young Slovenian, and by signing the Dortmund forward, it would mean that Šeško wouldn’t have to play every game.
Guirassy would also give Amorim a different kind of option off the bench, as Šeško is the only out-and-out centre-forward Amorim has at his disposal, not counting young Chido Obi, who has started the season with the under-21s.
Guirassy scored 34 goals last season and 30 the season before. He already has 11 in 20 games this season. A prolific goal-scorer, and while he is 29, he’d be an excellent signing for the right price.
