Manchester United ‘considering selling’ Diogo Dalot with Real Madrid holding ‘long-term interest’

Real Madrid have maintained an interest in Diogo Dalot as Manchester United may look to sell the fullback amid internal discussions over his future.

Diogo Dalot has been one of the most consistent features of Ruben Amorim’s side with the Portuguese fullback featuring 13 times in the Premier League so far, accumulating one goal and two assists.

Manchester United are currently sat on 25 points in the league as they are on a run of one loss in their last nine games. Amorim has utilised his persistent 3-4-2-1 formation without fail since his arrival in November of 2024, which has led the manager to utilise Dalot in multiple positions.

More recently, the fullback has started as the left-sided wingback with Amad often featuring on the right, leaving them both favouring the option of cutting in onto their preferred foot.

Dalot’s recent performances have raised concern in the fanbase with the 26-year-old often having moments of poor quality which have put an end to promising United attacks, but Dalot’s availability for the club must be admired.

With United looking to potentially sell in the upcoming transfer windows, Real Madrid have reportedly appeared as Dalot’s next possible destination as they are in the midst of an injury crisis.

Real Madrid target €22m move for Dalot

Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold’s summer move, the Real Madrid side are looking to strengthen their depth with the potential signing of Dalot, as TEAMtalk reports. United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is considering selling the Portuguese international in a 2026 move.

The future of Dalot at Old Trafford is being discussed at Man United, with Real Madrid holding long-term interest, given Dani Carvajal is nearing the end of his time at Madrid and his age and injury record.

Versatility is a factor of Real Madrid’s side that has proven crucial to their aims for success, as they have lined up with a wide variety in their back four. The full back positions have been filled with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba and former Red Alvaro Carreras, so Dalot’s ability to operate on both sides is admired by the club.

Dalot has also caught the attention of fellow European giants, Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich who are both fans of the United fullback.

Whilst Wilcox the United staff are happy with Dalot, they are also acknowledging the pay rise that would be expected if Dalot were to sign a new deal at the club with him often being seen as a senior player of leadership.

Dalot could still be United’s long-term fullback

Dalot’s current contract expires in 2028 with the option for an additional year, but the Portuguese player’s people have approached United about opening talks in 2026.

Man United are now assessing the possibility of keeping Dalot for a long term basis or if they are ready to move the fullback on after eight seasons at the club, signing from FC Porto in 2018 under Jose Mourinho.

Dalot is playing a pivotal role in United’s current squad as they aim to secure Champions League football again and with the temporary departures of Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui for the African Cup of Nations, depth on the right hand side will be crucial for any success.

With the left side of United squad being less strong, Dalot may prove to be a key factor in versatility as United’s current left wingbacks remain as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, Tyrell Malacia and Diego Leon, who have considerably less experience than Dalot.
