Manchester United confirm Sekou Kone shirt number after first-team introduction
Manchester United have confirmed Sekou Kone’s shirt number after his first-team introduction at Carrington this week.
Sekou Kone joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window in a surprise £1 million move which showcased the changing direction of the club under INEOS.
The new regime at Old Trafford are looking to sign young and talented players before they reach their potential elsewhere and their price tags sky-rocket.
Kone, 18, joined the club alongside the likes of Chido Obi-Martin, Samuel Lusale and James Overy.
Although, it has been made clear that the midfield star is the talent most prepared for first-team action, and that could come sooner than some might expect.
Sekou Kone joins Man Utd first-team training
It was reported by the Manchester Evening News that several Under-21s stars trained with the senior squad on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the trip to Fenerbahce.
The report added that several of those young players could be included in the travelling squad, with Harry Amass expected to be one of those.
Club photographers showcased summer signing Kone getting his first taste of first-team action at Carrington, as he was among the group training with Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Some will be interested in the teenager’s shirt number, as it has not been seen yet. He was donning the no.42 in training.
That is a number previously worn by other young talents like Alvaro Fernandez and Paul Pogba.
Will Kone be involved against Fenerbahce?
It is highly unlikely that Kone is involved in the game on Thursday, with various reports claiming that United are taking his development slowly after his move from Mali.
The teenager has not even made an appearance in the Academy yet as he missed most of pre-season while dealing with the transfer to Old Trafford.
It is more likely to see the teenager start to make appearances in the youth team, while also training with Ten Hag’s squad, before eventually being integrated later this season.
