According to reports from Germany, Manchester United have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands star Jeremie Frimpong.

As the Red Devils prepare for INEOS‘ first transfer window at the helm of Manchester United, several Dutch internationals have been heavily linked with joining Erik ten Hag at the club.

Both Rasmus Hojlund’s former teammate Teun Koopmeiners and Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee have been proposed as being possibly in line for a move from the Serie A to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Frimpong, who has 12 goals and 11 assists so far this season has been heavily linked with a move to United over the last few weeks.

Earlier this month, the Sun reported that the hierarchy at United sees Frimpong as the “perfect profile in terms of age and asking price.”

Frimpong, who will be available for £35 million this summer due to a release clause in his contract, has been a stable of Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title-chasing side as a wing-back.

The Netherlands international’s release clause is only active up to the start of Euro 2024, meaning any deal will need to be struck before June 14th of this year.

The Sun’s report noted that United will have to fend off interest from club rivals Manchester City for Frimpong’s services. Now, a new report from German outlet SportBILD via SportWitness, has confirmed several aspects of United’s interest in Frimpong.

The report from Germany stated that United have a firm interest in Frimpong, and have registered their interest directly with the player.

Whilst the report from Germany did not confirm Manchester City’s desire to sign Frimpong, it did state that United are expected to face competition from both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for the Dutchman’s signature.

Frimpong is believed to be happy at Leverkusen, with both manager Xabi Alonso, as well as those in charge at the German side keen to keep him at the club.
