Manchester United are “significantly more likely” to land huge signing after Chelsea win Liam Delap race

Manchester United are now “significantly more likely” to land a huge summer signing after losing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea.

The transfer window is not even open yet but Manchester United are working hard to get deals over the line as soon as possible.

Matheus Cunha is on the verge of completing a deal and becoming Ruben Amorim’s first summer signing and further attacking additions are expected.

United experienced major goalscoring issues last term and will want to fix that with quality signings, including a new centre-forward.

Liam Delap has been the preferred striker signing at Old Trafford but the latest reports from talkSPORT reveal that the Ipswich Town striker has chosen to join Chelsea, with European football playing a major part in his decision.

But according to recent reports, this development could actually give United a boost in their pursuit of another Premier League forward in the coming months.

United more likely to land Mbeumo after Delap failure

United have registered an interest in Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo in recent days and have reportedly started initial talks with his camp.

Earlier this week, GiveMeSport revealed that United could make a move for the 25-year-old regardless of their pursuit of Delap.

However, it was explained that if Delap turned down the Reds, the chances of landing the signing of Mbeumo would become “significantly more likely”.

United are deeply concerned about their lack of final third threat, the report adds, and are determined to not start the new season without at least two proven goalscorers.

Cunha netted 15 times in the Premier League last season while Mbeumo was the joint-fourth highest scorer in the division with 20 goals.

United still need to sign new striker

United fans would be much more confident heading into the new season with Cunha and Mbeumo as attacking options but there is still a need for another centre-forward.

With a potential outlay of £110 million on those two offensive players, it is more likely that United would search for a cheaper option up front.

While it would be brilliant to sign an extravagant striker who will guarantee loads of goals, United could simply do with an experienced head who can do the basics at a top level.

There are plenty of strikers who could provide upgrades on the current options at Old Trafford and it is now down to INEOS to decide who fits best.
