Manchester United are ahead of two rivals in all factors except ONE, says Premier League legend
Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has claimed the Red Devils are ahead of their competitors for a top-four Premier League finish in all but one category.
Yorke, a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s treble-winning Manchester United team has been frequently vocal in his condemnation of the current United team.
Commenting on Erik ten Hag’s tenure as United boss in a recent appearance on BeIN Sports, Yorke had the following to say:
“We are a million miles away from winning the Premier League. When talking about the current manager, this was a person to take us forward, and we thought after the first season this was the guy.
“What has happened, yes we have managed to win the FA Cup, but the identity in terms of how we play, where we finish, goals conceded, is the worst in our history since the Premier League started in 1992.”
However, despite Yorke’s brutal analysis, the three-time Premier League winner, still believes the Red Devils are still ahead of one of their rivals.
Discussing the race for a top-four finish in the Prem, BeIN Sports pundit Richard Keys claimed that United are trailing behind all of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, with Yorke rebuffing Keys’ claims.
Focusing on Tottenham and Chelsea specifically, Yorke took umbrage with the suggestion the London sides are ahead of his former team.
“I think Man United has got a good chance [of securing a top-four finish],” Yorke affirmed. “I disagree with you on two of them. If you put Chelsea and Tottenham ahead of Man United, that’s not happening.
“There’s no way Tottenham are ahead of Manchester United. No way. As bad as we may be right now, current position, Tottenham is not ahead of Man United in any department. Well, beautiful stadium, I’ll give you that.”
Making 152 appearances for Manchester United in his playing career, Yorke would score 65 goals, before continuing his career at a host of other Premier League clubs.
Yorke had previously told the Daily Mail that he believes that he deserves the chance to manage Manchester United as much as former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did.
To date, Yorke’s managerial career has only seen him take up a permanent role with A-League side Macarthur FC, a role he held for 19 games, winning 10.
