Manchester United are pressing ahead with their £92.5 million transfer plan, with Liam Delap reportedly leaning toward signing for Rúben Amorim’s side this summer.
Manchester United are planning on adding a number of attacking reinforcements to Rúben Amorim’s squad this summer as the club look to generate a fresh-look front line at Old Trafford.
United have failed to score enough goals this campaign, with just 42 strikes in 36 Premier League games this term, leaving them 16th in the league table.
While the squad have found more sustainable success in the Europa League, a competition they are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the final in the quest for glory and Champions League qualification, domestic form has been woeful.
Only Bruno Fernandes, Amad, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund have netted ten or more goals this season, with the latter three only just breaching the double-digit threshold while Fernandes has 19 to his name.
Delap leaning toward signing for United this summer
Amid the club’s hunt for fresh goals, the club are said to have landed on Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as their No. 1 option this summer, with the English striker having a £30 million release clause in his contract.
However, Amorim’s side faces significant competition from Chelsea, who are also looking to add the player to their attacking line, while Newcastle see him as the ideal replacement for Alexander Isak should the Swede leave St. James’ Park this summer.
According to a fresh report from journalist Ben Jacobs, United are becoming optimistic that they will be able to secure the 22-year-old over Chelsea this summer, having already made a strong case to the player.
Although Delap is waiting to see who qualifies for Europe next season amid United’s need to win the Europa League to do so, a further report from talkSPORT has detailed that Delap is already edging toward signing for United over Chelsea this summer.
United activating £92.5 million transfer plan
Aside from attempting to secure Delap, United are also closing in on a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, who is expected to join the club as Amorim’s new first-choice left-forward.
Various reports from April detailed that United were planning on agreeing deals for both Delap and Cunha by 1 June, as both players had release clauses, with United entering into negotiations with Wolves to pay the Brazilian’s £62.5 million fee in instalments instead of up front.
Delap is reported to want his future sorted by the time he jets off to play with England in the U21s European Championships, which commences on 1 June.
Cunha is already ready to join Old Trafford and is expected to sign a contract worth around £200,000 a week, with the potential for no European football not a stumbling block for the 25-year-old’s transfer.
With Delap also indicating a willingness to join and United’s Champions League fate set to be secured next month, the club are activating their intention to bring in the £92.5 million pair by the time the window opens at the beginning of June.
