Manchester City are confident of repeating Antoine Semenyo saga with Man Utd’s ‘top target’

Having just pipped Manchester United to the signing of Antoine Semenyo, Manchester City look to repeat history by ‘beating’ the Reds to their ‘top target’.

Manchester United splashed out £200million on new attackers during the summer transfer window, but despite this, Ruben Amorim’s side still went in pursuit of AFC Bournemouth talisman Antoine Semenyo.

United brought in the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško as they looked to resolve their former problems in front of goal, which seems to have worked fairly well.

Nonetheless, the Reds were keen on acquiring Semenyo, who has nine Premier League goals so far this season, although it appears that they have been pipped to the signing by their local rivals, Manchester City.

The blue side of Manchester have seemingly won the race for Semenyo, and could now look to repeat history as they set sights on United’s ‘top target’.

City keen on Anderson

As reported by TEAMtalk, via Football 365, City ‘could beat’ their local rivals to the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, with both sides looking to bolster their midfield.

TEAMtalk stated that ‘there is a feeling within the club that they could take a similar route with Anderson’, following their victory in the race for Semenyo.

Additionally, former United scout Mick Brown has insisted that Anderson is the ‘top target’ for United, as he said, “They should be bending over backwards to bring him in, and from what I hear, they are prepared to go all out because they don’t want to miss out on him.

“Whether it happens in January, I think that’s unlikely because Forest won’t want to lose him. It might be something they have to be patient for, but they should be prepared to do whatever it takes.”

United can’t miss out

Having just missed out on the signing of Semenyo, the Reds may not be too concerned, considering they still have a plethora of attacking options, although, this isn’t the case in their midfield.

The Reds’ midfield dilemma has been clear for all to see during the first half of their campaign, and with the futures of all their current midfielders still up in the air, Anderson is one they shouldn’t allow themselves to miss out on.

Following a summer which almost saw Bruno Fernandes leave the club, United’s midfield department has become even more unsteady, with both Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo potentially facing exits.

If United are to start closing the gap between themselves and the title challengers, then they will need to start winning these off-pitch battles if they are to improve the calibre of players in their squad.
