Manager warned about Man United move despite INEOS being “big admirers”
One manager that INEOS are “big admirers” of has been warned about the prospect of becoming the boss at Manchester United.
The future of Erik ten Hag is in the air as the United manager and his side seem to be limping to the finish line of the season.
FA Cup glory is still possible, with the semi-final against Coventry coming this weekend, yet the chances of Champions League football next term are slim.
INEOS are already starting their adjustments at the club, with Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox all set to be important parts of the project.
The managerial role will also be changed, with less responsibility outside of a coaching capacity.
With Ten Hag’s future unknown, there have been reports about Kieran McKenna, who is excelling at Ipswich Town after he departed Old Trafford in 2021 when he was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s assistant.
Recent reports have claimed that INEOS and United are “big admirers” of the young English coach and that there are keeping a keen eye on him to be the next manager at Old Trafford.
This would, however, represent a huge step up for McKenna and whilst it is an opportunity he could not pass on if offered, former Preston and Sunderland manager Simon Grayson believes that it would be the wrong move.
He told the East Anglian Daily Press: “Looking at McKenna’s next move, the Manchester United job is very likely to be far too early in his managerial career, but he has done no harm in being on their radar as one to follow.
“McKenna has done a brilliant job getting Ipswich to the Championship and now to be in real contention for the Premier League, this is a huge achievement.
“But if you get offered that kind of opportunity, you don’t turn it down.
“I would be surprised if he gets an offer for that job because there’ll be a lot of other people with vast more experience than him, but you can never say never.”
