Man Utd’s fourth summer signing sends emotional goodbye message as Jason Wilcox’s integration plan revealed

Manchester United’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window is incoming and they’ve sent an emotional goodbye message to their current club.

So far this summer, Manchester United have announced three signings although just one of those will be a first-team regular for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Matheus Cunha joined the club earlier on in the window and has taken the iconic no.10 shirt as he looks to be an important player for the team next season.

The Reds have also brought in Diego Leon as an option at left wingback although the Paraguayan talent will likely be playing Under-21s football when the season begins.

It was then confirmed that Enzo Kana-Biyik would join the club, but the exciting French striker has been sent out on loan immediately to INEOS-owned Lausanne-Sport, and he made his debut on the weekend.

Bryan Mbeumo is also expected to join the club soon as well but it appears that another young talent will officially join the club before that point.

Emsden-James sends emotional goodbye message before United move

It was revealed earlier this summer that United had reached an agreement to sign exciting 16-year-old defender Harley Emsden-James from Southampton.

The young centre-back, who has represented England at youth level, was brought in largely through the efforts of United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox.

Wilcox spent nine months at the freshly relegated outfit, and he knows the defender well, along with his potential.

Emsden-James has now penned an emotional goodbye message to the Saints as his move to Old Trafford moves closer.

“After 9 unforgettable years at Southampton FC, my time with the club has come to an end,” the teenager wrote on Instagram.

“I’m incredibly grateful for all the memories made and the amazing people I’ve met throughout the journey.

“A huge thank you to all the staff who have supported and guided me over the years, to my teammates who’ve become friends, and to everyone who’s been a part of this chapter with me.

“Southampton will always hold a special place in my heart. On to the next chapter! ❤️”

Wilcox’s integration plan for Emsden-James

According to recent reports, Wilcox’s plan for the young defender is to feature for the Under-18s during the 2025/26 season, which will see a change in leadership following the recent and unexpected exit of head coach Adam Lawrence.

It has been reported that United legend and current first-team staff member, Darren Fletcher, will take the lead of the youth side.

Having only turned 16 in recent months, Emsden-James is viewed as a highly promising talent and is expected to receive a warm welcome at Carrington.

United are also said to be eyeing deals for more exciting talents for the Academy setup, such as Seth Ridgeon, England under-17s captain, and Tyrese Noubissie of Manchester City.
