It has been revealed that Manchester United made a sensible transfer U-turn with three deals on the verge of being completed.

Manchester United kicked off the 2024 transfer window with two significant signings, acquiring Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and outmanoeuvring Real Madrid to secure Leny Yoro from Lille.

With these transfers totalling £88 million, the club now needs to offload players to fund additional moves. Erik ten Hag has already begun reshaping his squad, with Mason GreenwoodWilly Kambwala, and Alvaro Fernandez among those who have left.

United’s next priority is to strengthen key positions, focusing on midfield, right-back, and centre-back. Two new arrivals will bolster the latter two positions in the coming days.

According to multiple reports, United have agreed to two deals with Bayern Munich to sign central defender Matthijs de Ligt and right-back Noussair Mazraoui. Both players are now set to sign five-year contracts at Old Trafford.

While the De Ligt deal will be finalised as soon as possible, Mazraoui’s transfer depends on Aaron Wan-Bissaka completing his move to West Ham United, which is set to be finalised in the next 72 hours.

It has now been revealed that United chose to make a U-turn during discussions regarding Wan-Bissaka’s sale, which has allowed all three transfers to be initiated.

Reports earlier this week claimed that the 26-year-old was demanding as much as £7 million in compensation due to his wage reduction and that United were not willing to pay this, while West Ham could not afford it.

However, a new report from Manchester Evening News has claimed that, in a U-turn from the club, United decided that they would compensate the defender with a payment of up to £5.6 million, which was the final significant hurdle in the deal.

it’s a sensible move for United for two reasons. The first, obviously, is that the domino effect has now allowed United to secure both of their targets before the first day of the Premier League season.

Secondly, it allows United breathing room to secure a midfielder in the final weeks of the window, which is their last significant transfer point.
