Manchester United are reportedly changing their latest transfer targets, and their decision is doing PSG two favours in the window.

Manchester United are looking to bring in midfield reinforcements this summer after the 2023/24 season left Erik ten Hag‘s with gaping holes in that area.

Poor performances from Sofyan Amrabat and Casemiro led to the side conceding over 80 goals across all competitions in the campaign, and the club are looking at alternatives in the area.

With Casemiro likely to be sold and Scott McTominay potentially following suit, United have been linked to a whole host of targets, with strong links appearing between Old Trafford and Everton’s Amadou Onana.

UtdDistrict understands that the United scouting department are big on Onana. His individual performances at the 2024 European Championships impressed many despite Belgium’s poor results.

However, according to Foot Mercato, United are no longer a significant player in the race for Onoana this summer. It is claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are now the key players in his transfer from Everton this summer.

This is mostly due to United’s desire to sign 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from the Ligue 1 side this window, which is a switch from their original interest in Onana. Just one year after signing in Paris, the former Sporting player is “90% likely” to leave as he is not in Luis Enrique’s plans, according to South American reports.

United’s seeming switch from Onana to Ugarte does two big favours for PSG. Firstly, it helps them offload an unwanted player earlier in the window, allowing them to pursue replacements with time on their side.

Secondly, it rules them out of the race for Onana, which leaves PSG in the clear to sign him. Following reports on Thursday that Arsenal are also pursuing other targets, PSG are now seemingly being handed a free run at the 22-year-old.

Ugarte is currently playing alongside Facundo Pellistri at the 2024 Copa America and started alongside the United winger during their recent 5-0 win over Bolivia.
