A detailing of every transfer Manchester United have so far confirmed this summer, with four leaving Old Trafford while a new face arrives.

While a decision on Erik ten Hag‘s future has yet to be made, Manchester United have already started making decisive changes in the 2024 summer transfer market.

Many outgoings from Old Trafford are expected this summer as INEOS look to clear out the deadwood in the team and streamline expenses on transfers and wages, and this has already had an impact on the squad.

United need to raise funds this summer to complete new signings, with those such as Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood expected to be sold. Here is a list of the five confirmed activities that have so far materialised at the club.

Outgoings

The first outgoing transfer confirmed is young left-back Alvaro Fernandez’s departure from the club. After signing in 2020, Fernandez was sent on multiple loans, and during his latest to Benfica, he has seemingly impressed.

Benfica decided to trigger the £5.1 million clause to sign Fernandez permanently. This fee for the 21-year-old could rise to £7.7 million with add-ons.

There have been three other confirmed departures, all in the area of free agents whose contracts will expire at the end of June.

The first is Anthony Martial, who signed for the club for a then-record fee for a teenager of £36 million. The club let Martial go after they decided not to extend his contract by a further year and did not offer him a new deal. He has been linked with four clubs in the last few weeks.

A second is Raphaël Varane. INEOS want to reduce the wages of players, so they refused to extend Varane’s contract of over £300,000 a week earlier this year. The two parties were not able to agree on a reduction in wages, so his exit was confirmed a week before the club won the FA Cup final.

Finally, young striker Charlie McNeill also announced that he was to leave the club for free. The 20-year-old was an exciting academy graduate that signed from Manchester City, but was not offered a new deal.

Incomings

This may have gone under the radar for many, but one player is likely to join United’s ranks this summer.

James Overy, a 16-year-old full-back from A-League side Perth Glory, may well become United’s first summer signing. According to The Athletic, the club hopes he will accept a scholarship deal after his family relocates from Australia.
