Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United have been offered a former Barcelona star who “would love” to move to Old Trafford this summer.

With Manchester United having secured the signings of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui so far this summer, they are looking to plug the remaining gaps in their squad.

While Erik ten Hag is insistent on signing another midfielder before the 30 August deadline, the club have also been urged by fans to sign another left-back before the window shuts.

With both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw injured, a familiar story from last campaign, the club may look to delve into either the free-agent or loan market in order to cover the gap on the left flank.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club have now been offered the chance to sign former Barcelona and Chelsea star Marcos Alonso, who is currently a free agent.

Furthermore, the transfer expert reveals that Alonso would “love” to move to United, but nothing concrete is currently in place.

“Marcos Alonso would love to go to Manchester United,” Romano told GiveMeSport. “He has been offered to Manchester United in recent weeks, but there is nothing really concrete or advanced into it so far.

“I think Manchester United will take some time before deciding who the player they really want to cover that position is, and will save their budget, save their money, and put their effort into a deal for the midfield.

“They need a new midfielder, and the idea is to make it happen as the next step in the summer transfer window.”

UtdDistrict understands that United intend to sign a new midfielder this summer even if they don’t manage to make any more sales, but ideally, they would want two.

While Luke Shaw is expected to return in mid-September following the international break, Malacia is not expected back until at least October.

Lisandro Martínez was trialled in the position against Manchester City last weekend but looked suspect. New signing Mazraoui has played there on a number of occasions for Bayern Munich, as has Diogo Dalot under Ten Hag.
