Ruud van Nistelrooy targets two Manchester United stars, 120 p/w player wants out in January
Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly targeting two Manchester United stars in the coming weeks as Victor Lindelöf wants out from Rúben Amorim’s side.
Manchester United’s 2025 transfer plans are starting to take shape as Rúben Amorim continues to gain a deeper understanding of his squad at Old Trafford.
The 39-year-old head coach has now led the team in six matches, earning his first win against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League and adding another European victory with a confident second-half performance against FC Plzen.
In domestic action, United produced an impressive 4-0 win over Everton but have been inconsistent, falling to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest while sharing the points with Ipswich Town.
As preparations for the next transfer window gather pace, there is an acceptance that the club may need to sell some of its marquee players to generate funds for squad improvements and align with Amorim’s long-term plans.
Lindelöf wants out
United have multiple players with their contracts set to expire in the summer, although both Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo are both expected to have their deals either extended or improved in the coming weeks.
According to TBRFootball, one of United’s most sellable players in January, whose contract is up in June 2025, is Swedish defender Victor Lindelöf, who has been at the club for over seven seasons but wants to depart.
The report states that he has interest from elsewhere around Europe, such as his former side Benfica, whilst there are teams in Italy, Germany, Spain and the Saudi Pro League who are ready to supply offers.
It’s stated that Lindelöf is also attracting January interest from former United interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is in charge of Leicester City, and this could come in the form of a loan with a nominal fee and split in wages, which currently sit at £120,000-a-week.
Van Nistelrooy’s second request
According to The Sun, Van Nistelrooy is also keen on bringing United midfielder Toby Collyer to the King Power Stadium on a six-month loan deal.
The report explains that the Dutch manager is planning on using his current contacts at the club to organise a loan bid for the 20-year-old academy player.
Although United are thought not to want to sell the youngster, they would be “open minded” to a loan move until the end of the season as it would allow Collyer to get a sustained taste of Premier League action.
The young star has had a rough time with injuries in the last six weeks. Although he was highly rated by Erik ten Hag, Amorim’s arrival plus multiple injury returns in midfield means that Collyer now sits very low in the pecking order in the middle of the park.
A loan move to Leicester City would allow him to experience Premier League football under a manager he can trust, while it would allow Lindelöf time to showcase his talents to potential employers from the summer onwards.
