Manchester United are reportedly considering signing a “dynamic” Premier League star to replace Marcus Rashford ahead of the transfer deadline.

Marcus Rashford will join Aston Villa on a six-month loan in January, with the 27-year-old eager for a new challenge away from Manchester United.

Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford enjoyed a prolific 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has since declined, and he has struggled for game time under Rúben Amorim.

With Amad and Bruno Fernandes now established as key players, Rashford has not featured for United in over six weeks.

A product of United’s academy, Rashford made a sensational debut at 18, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League before netting another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Since then, he has played over 420 times for the club, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists, winning five major trophies along the way.

United considering Bailey as Tel alternative

With Rashford due to complete his Villa loan move in the coming 24 hours, United need to replace him within Amorim’s attacking line. Villa are set to pay at least 75% of the player’s wages, meaning United have a lot of budget freed up.

United have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel often in the last few weeks, and the club have been confident of securing a deal, although Arsenal have since entered the race.

However, according to The Athletic, Tel is not the only attacking reinforcement the club are considering, as they are also eyeing a move for Villa’s Leon Bailey.

Although any transfer for Bailey would be separate from Rashford’s pending move to Villa Park, and although United are yet to enter advanced talks with their Premier League counter-parts, it is still one to watch in the coming days.

TalkSPORT have reported that United will also step up talks with Bayern for Tel now that Rashford’s move to Villa is agreed and set to be completed.

Would signing Bailey make sense?

While Rashford is a player who has often operated on the left, Jamaican international Bailey is predominantly a right-sided player.

In the past, United have often had a stacked number of players who prefer to operate on the left-hand side of the attack, and with Amad the only clear attacking option on the right-hand side, bringing in Bailey would add to Amorim’s depth.

The 27-year-old joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 and has scored 21 times and registered 23 assists across 134 first-team appearances for the club, including a positive 14 goals in the 2023-24 season.

Bailey’s current transfer valuation sits at just over £31 million, according to popular website Transfermarkt.
