What Rúben Amorim told Marcus Rashford just before he accepted his loan move from Manchester United to Aston Villa has been revealed.

Marcus Rashford is set to join Aston Villa on a six-month loan in January, with the 27-year-old seeking a fresh challenge away from Manchester United.

Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford hit 30 goals under Erik ten Hag in the 2022/23 season. However, his form has since declined, and under Rúben Amorim, he has struggled for minutes.

With Amad and Bruno Fernandes now key figures in the side, Rashford has not featured for United in over six weeks.

Having spent nearly two decades at Old Trafford, Rashford burst onto the scene at 18 with a stunning debut, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League before adding another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Since then, he has made over 420 appearances for United, scoring 138 goals and registering 63 assists, while winning five major trophies.

What Amorim told Rashford before his loan

Rashford has been absent from all but one of United’s matchday squads ever since the Manchester Derby in December, with his final minutes for the club coming away from home against FC Plzen in the Europa League.

Amorim has been keen to reiterate on a consistent basis that he has been keeping Rashford out of the squad because he feels the winger has not been applying himself properly.

However, talkSPORT have now revealed just before the winger accepted Villa’s six-month loan move, Amorim informed Rashford that if he stayed at the club this window, he would continue not to be selected and that he would not play for United again while Amorim was in charge.

This follows reports last week that claimed Rashford and Amorim’s relationship had completely broken down and that the only time the head coach spoke to Rashford was when he addressed the squad more generally in training.

Full details of Rashford’s loan move

According to the aforementioned report, Aston Villa will be paying 75% of Rashford’s wage, which sit at in excess of £350,000 a week.

However, this may rise to 90% depending on how well the 27-year-old performs at Villa Park for the remainder of the season.

Further, Villa have an option to buy the player permanently for around a £40 million fee in the summer should they choose to do so.

Rashford is set to undergo his medical with Aston Villa on Sunday ahead of completing his move before the 3 February transfer deadline.
