Aston Villa’s buy option for Marcus Rashford revealed as Manchester United star completes loan move
Aston Villa have inserted a buy option in their transfer for Marcus Rashford as they complete a loan deal to sign the Manchester United winger for six months.
Marcus Rashford is signing for Premier League side Aston Villa in a six-month loan deal in January after the 27-year-old revealed his desire for a new challenge away from Manchester United.
Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford enjoyed a stellar 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has dipped since, and under Rúben Amorim, he has struggled for game time.
With Amad and Bruno Fernandes now established as key figures, Rashford has not featured for United for over six weeks.
Having spent nearly 20 years at Old Trafford, Rashford’s journey began with a sensational debut at 18, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League before adding another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Villa buy option for Rashford revealed
While United have agreed to send Rashford on loan for the remainder of the season to Villa, they have also agreed to a buy option that the Birmingham club can trigger in the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, should Villa choose to do so, they will be able to sign Rashford for £40 million in the 2025 summer transfer window.
It has also been stated that Villa are set to pay around 60% of Rashford’s wages for the remainder of the season and will pay a loan fee for the player.
Rashford’s potential sale will be a massive boost for United’s financial prospects, as his status as an Academy graduate means any money made off his sale will be counted as pure profit on the club’s books.
Why United are getting rid of Rashford
Amorim has been very clear over the last month that the reason he has continued to exile Rashford from United’s matchday squads has been down to his lack of effort in training.

“The team should be so much better with Marcus Rashford but he has to change,” Amorim said. “If he changes, we are more than welcome to put a talent like Marcus Rashford and we need it.
“In this moment, I think it’s really clear, I have to set some standards, that is all. You try to make it something personal but it is nothing against Marcus. I just have to make the same rules for everybody. For me, it’s so simple and always the same.”
However, reports have also stated in recent weeks that Rashford and Amorim’s relationship has completely broken down, with the pair not on speaking terms.
