Manchester United ‘looking to sign’ Golden Boy midfield target for Rúben Amorim this summer

According to a new Sky Germany report, Manchester United is looking to sign a midfielder for Rúben Amorim this summer who was nominated for the Golden Boy award.
Manchester United are preparing to reshape their midfield this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to solve the team’s ongoing issues in central areas.
Creativity has been a consistent problem for United this season, with the side frequently lacking invention in attack and struggling to score more than once per game. Their patchy form at Old Trafford has only deepened concerns about their ability to control matches from midfield.
In January, several attacking players departed on loan — Antony joined Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moved to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley signed with Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.
More changes are expected at the end of the season, with Christian Eriksen set to leave on a free and Casemiro no longer part of Amorim’s long-term vision.
As a result, United are actively planning for a key summer transfer window, focusing on midfielders who can offer technical quality, tactical discipline, and the dynamism required to execute Amorim’s style of play.
United looking to sign Golden Boy nominee
It has become clear that, with INEOS now at the helm of United’s footballing operations, the club are shifting their focus toward signing young and upcoming players who can build to their full potential at Old Trafford.
The signings of Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Ayden Heaven, Patrick Dorgu, and Joshua Zirkzee in the last year all point to a general strategy of signing players aged 23 and under, and it seems as the club will continue this trend in the summer.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, United are eyeing a move for versatile attacking midfielders this summer and have landed on Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz as an option.
“Manchester United, they are also looking for a new versatile attacking midfielder,” Plettenberg explained. “Kenan Yildiz, according to our information, one of the names they are looking for, the midfielder from Juventus.”
Yildiz was nominated for the 2024 Golden Boy Award alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, and he finished 5th in the rankings, with Mainoo second and Garnacho 9th.
Who else are United targeting this summer?
Plettenberg also went on to explain that Yildiz is not the only player United are looking at this summer with respect to attacking midfield, with RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons also a concrete option in the position.
However, it was explained that, to sign Simons this summer, Leipzig are demanding around £67 million for the Netherlands international this summer.
“The other top name is Xavi from RB Leipzig,” the journalist continued. “And Leipzig, they are also demanding €80 million for him.”
In other news, United are also looking at potentially bringing in Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško this summer, who would also cost United around £67 million amid interest from multiple clubs.
