“Rúben Amorim wants…” Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United transfer latest after stunning Hugo Ekitike hat-trick
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed reports from elsewhere surrounding Manchester United’s summer transfer interest following a stunning Hugo Ekitike hat-trick on Friday evening.
Manchester United are expected to focus heavily on attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle for goals.
With Bruno Fernandes the only consistent contributor, United’s front three have largely failed to deliver this season. Their erratic form at Old Trafford has only intensified concerns over the lack of cutting edge.
In the January transfer window, the club loaned out several attacking players—Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.
Despite those departures, United opted not to bring in any attacking replacements. Their only signings were left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal, leaving fans questioning the club’s January strategy.
What Amorim wants this summer
The latest from Sky Sports has explained that “Rúben Amorim wants” his club to sign a new striker this summer, with Bundesliga players Benjamin Šeško and Hugo Ekitike both on the club’s list.
However, Sky Germany Florian Plettenberg explained on the afternoon transfer show that the Old Trafford club would have to cough up a significant fee to sign either player this summer.
According to the report, RB Leipzig have a £67 million release clause in Šeško’s current contact, and other rumours have heavily linked the Slovenian with a move to Arsenal this summer.
Similarly, Eintracht Frankfurt have put a price tag of £67 million on Ekitike this summer, and his hat-trick for France’s U21 against England in a 5-3 in on Friday evening will only strengthen this position.
Ekitike has a stunning 19 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit this summer.
Romano provides United transfer latest
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that United are looking to sign an “important” striker this summer to add to Amorim’s attack.
Further, he also told those watching that they should keep an eye out regarding the future of Ekitike, as he is destined to leave Germany this summer and the Premier League is a likely destination.
“Keep an eye on Ekitike because my information is that Hugo Ekitike can really leave Eintracht Frankfurt this summer,” Romano explained.
“The expectation is for Ekitike to go, not staying in Germany, and trying a new opportunity abroad. There is strong interest from the Premier League.
“So what I can tell you today is still early, it’s still March, it’s still not time to mention clubs in advanced talks, we are not at that stage, but what I can tell you today is that there is movement around the Ekitike, and the expectation is for the player to leave in the summer with the Premier League seen as a likely possible destination.
