Manchester United are looking to sign a new striker this summer, with Rasmus Højlund currently the only recognised forward at the club.

With Anthony Martial departing the club at the end of this month following the expiry of his contract, Erik ten Hag has been left with Rasmus Højlund as the only recognised striker in the Manchester United squad.

Regardless of Ten Hag’s future, which remains unsolved, United are thought to be keen on bringing in a new No. 9 to Old Trafford to challenge Højlund.

United have not started any direct negotiations with clubs for transfer targets as they are waiting to make a final conclusion surrounding the Dutch manager’s tenure at Old Trafford, but lists of potential targets have been drawn up.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are still keen on signing 23-year-old Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer. Zirkzee scored 12 goals last campaign and provided seven assists.

However, the report also explains that beyond United, Arsenal and AC Milan are also “closely monitoring” the player’s developments.

It is said that Arsenal have now moved away from targeting Premier League players such as Alexander Isak and Ivan Toney and instead are looking for talent abroad, which is no doubt a testament to Zirkzee’s abilities, talent, and potential.

Zirkzee is understood to have a release clause in the region of £34 million after joining Bologna on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich two seasons ago for around £7 million.
