Manchester United academy star Hannibal Mejbri is now “likely” to sign for a club in La Liga or Ligue 1 this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to raise transfer funds.

Hannibal Mejbri’s tenure at Manchester United has not unfolded as anticipated since his €10 million transfer from AS Monaco in the summer of 2019.

Initially brought in as part of a burgeoning academy setup, Mejbri has struggled to make a significant impact under Erik ten Hag’s management. In contrast, young talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have flourished.

Currently, Toby Collyer is now ranked higher in the pecking order, and it appears that Mejbri’s time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end, with the club reportedly open to offers for him this summer.

Reports last week claimed that Mejbri had handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford in a bid to secure a move away from United this summer, and fresh information now explains that this will likely happen.

Although the player has been linked to Celtic and Rangers, a new claim from Manchester World explains that Mejbri will “more likely” move to a club in Spain or France this summer.

Earlier this month, club legend and former striker Andy Cole advised Mejbri to leave Old Trafford while links between the player and both Celtic and Rangers were circling.

“He’s a kid that’s had a taste of first-team football that naturally wants to play more and more,” Cole said earlier this month.

“At Sevilla, there was an option in his deal that would have allowed him to join them permanently, so it looks as if there’s an open door allowing him to move on.

“If he has the opportunity to move to either Celtic or Rangers, then why not? It’s that simple.

“He’s going to find it difficult to get into the Manchester United team, so it will be interesting to see if the club decides to move him on and either loan him out or try and get a decent transfer fee for him and then use that money to try and do some business elsewhere. It would be an interesting one.”
