After selling one of their young stars this summer, Manchester United chiefs are reportedly “disappointed” in the transfer fee.

In the 2024 summer transfer window, Manchester United made significant investments to enhance their squad under Erik ten Hag.

The club welcomed five new first-team players: Joshua ZirkzeeLeny YoroMatthijs de LigtNoussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte. These additions were part of a broader strategy to strengthen key areas of the team.

To facilitate these signings, United also sanctioned several high-profile departures, generating over £120 million through the sales of players like Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Although the club generated a behemoth influx of cash through their sales, according to a new report from GiveMeSport, those high up at the club have been left “extremely disappointed” at one of the sales.

The GMS report states that the club’s chiefs are disappointed following Greenwood’s sale to Marseille. They feel they have missed out on a potential nine-figure sum for the 23-year-old forward.

Greenwood was sold to Marseille for an initial £20 million fee plus a further £6.7 million in add-ons. The club will also receive 50 per cent of any future sale Marseille agrees to.

However, according to the report, key figures at Old Trafford have seen Greenwood as a player who could go on to command a £100 million transfer fee, and losing out on this has left them wanting more.

Barcelona have already registered significant interest in the Marseille player and are reportedly eyeing up a bid of £60 million in 2025, which would see United secure around £30 million, making his Old Trafford exit worth around £50 million to the club.

However, it is also thought that United ensured there was a clause in his contract that would allow them to buy more percentages of a future sale if they chose to do so.
