Manchester United to make star a “serious” transfer option this summer, Rúben Amorim hold major advantage
Manchester United are set to make one Bundesliga player a “serious” transfer option this summer, with Rúben Amorim holding a major advantage about his signing.
Manchester United are expected to focus on midfield reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to bring stability and creativity to a struggling central unit.
Throughout the season, United have lacked invention in the final third, often failing to score more than once per match. Their inconsistent performances at Old Trafford have also brought questions surrounding the defensive stability Amorim’s midfield provides.
In January, the club loaned out several attacking players, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the rest of the campaign.
Further departures are anticipated at the end of the season. Christian Eriksen is out of contract, while Casemiro is no longer seen as part of Amorim’s long-term project.
With significant change expected, United are preparing to target midfielders who can bring energy, creativity, and tactical intelligence to suit Amorim’s style and restore balance to the side.
Bundesliga star may become “serious option” this summer
With defensive issues in the middle of the park generally persisting at United, the club have started exploring who they may be able to bring in this summer to add to Amorim’s team.
According to German transfer specialist Patrick Berger, United have landed on 24-year-old Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha as a possible option for the position.
The report Berger uploaded on social media platform X confirms that United are interested in the German international and have added him to their shortlist of midfield targets.
However, it’s also pointed out that there is yet to be any official contact made between United and either Dortmund or the player’s representatives, and the Bundesliga outfit are keen to keep the player this summer.
United may reportedly make the player a “serious option” this summer should any midfielders depart, and with Eriksen leaving and Casemiro likely to follow him, this is an increasingly likely scenario.
Dortmund are said to value Nmecha at over £42 million, and may have to sell if they do not qualify for European competition this summer. They sit 11th in the German league table, seven points off SC Freiburg in sixth.
Amorim has big advantage in transfer battle
Further, Berger explained that United and Amorim have a significant advantage when it comes to the potential transfer of Nmecha this summer.
Prior to signing with Wolfsburg before his move to Dortmund, the 2000-born player spent four years in Manchester City’s academy set-up between 2017 and 2021.
Berger points out that United technical director, Jason Wilcox, therefore knows the player well, having served as City’s Academy Director between 2017 and 2023.
This hands United an advantage in negotiations as, as well as having a rapport with the player, Wilcox is able to give a unique insight into what Nmecha may being Amorim and his squad, which could help convince the 24-year-old to depart Germany for Manchester this summer.
