According to a fresh report from the United Kingdom, Manchester United have advanced their interest in a “versatile” midfielder, with the transfer deemed “highly likely” to go through.
Manchester United are set to make midfield reinforcements a key focus this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to address persistent issues in the heart of his team.
United have lacked creativity and control throughout the campaign, regularly failing to create clear chances and at times limited to just a single goal per match. Their struggles at Old Trafford have only intensified the need for change in midfield.
In January, several players were sent out on loan — Antony joined Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moved to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley signed with Walsall for the remainder of the season.
Further departures are expected at the end of the campaign. Christian Eriksen is out of contract, and Casemiro is no longer considered part of the club’s future plans under Amorim.
As a result, United are preparing for a pivotal summer window, targeting midfielders who can bring technical quality, energy, and a better fit for the tactical demands of Amorim’s system.
United advancing on summer Nmecha transfer
Last week, news broke that United hold a “serious” interest in Borussia Dortmund defensive midfielder Felix Nmecha, with the 24-year-old identified as a possible candidate for a summer transfer.
It was stated through reports in Germany that although the Bundesliga club do not want to let go of their “versatile” player, they may be forced to if they do not qualify for European football, with Dortmund setting a rough price tag of £43 million.
In a fresh report from CaughtOffside, it now seems that United have taken an advancement on their current interest, with Amorim’s team now “plotting” a move for the German international this summer.
United are said to face competition from a whole host of Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
However, it is also explained that many of the aforementioned sides are waiting on a final assessment on the player’s current knee injury, which has seen him sidelined since the end of January and miss 13 games for Dortmund.
Nmecha transfer dubbed “highly likely”
Further, the CaughtOffside report also comments that, for multiple reasons, the potential transfer of Nmecha to Old Trafford is “highly likely.”

Much like United, Dortmund need to offload players this summer due to their current financial restrictions, and with the side sitting 11th in the Bundesliga table and seven points off any European places, no European football next season will only make their need to sell assets greater.
Similarly, United are desperately recruiting for the defensive midfield position this summer with Casemiro up for sale this summer, so it’s a transfer that may well go through as long as the two clubs can come to an agreement.
After Jadon Sancho’s six-month loan to Dortmund last season, it’s thought that there is a decent working relationship between the clubs, which would hopefully smooth over any transfer disagreements.
