“Medical booked” – Fabrizio Romano confirms Casemiro path for January transfer
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a path for Casemiro to leave Manchester United for the Saudi Pro League in the January transfer window has now opened.
Casemiro has started just once in Manchester United’s last 11 matches under Rúben Amorim, featuring in only two of those games and remaining an unused substitute in the last six.
The former Brazil international joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 for £60 million and enjoyed a stellar debut campaign under Erik ten Hag.
The 32-year-old played a pivotal role in United’s Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle United in February 2023, scoring the opening goal before Marcus Rashford added a second. That season, he made 53 appearances, contributing seven goals and seven assists.
However, recurring injury issues have seen his form dip, and under Amorim, he has fallen down the pecking order in midfield.
Romano confirms Casemiro transfer path now open
Casemiro has been closely linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League over the last six months, and recent reports confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been pushing his current club, Al Nassr, to sign the midfielder.
However, a transfer in January was thought to be hard to complete as Al Nassr had already filled their quota for foreign players, meaning they could not add any further options.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, this is now set to change, with Anderson Talisca set to leave the Saudi Arabian club and join Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe, with an agreement in place and a medical booked.
Should Talisca’s move to Turkey not have any hiccups before he signs for his new club, this would leave a space open for Al Nassr to grant Ronaldo’s wish and open Casemiro’s path to Saudi Arabia.
Previous reports have stated that United are willing to let Casemiro leave for under £30 million this month.
What Amorim said about Casemiro
Last week, Amorim was asked why Casemiro was playing so little, with the player now behind Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes, and Toby Collyer in the pecking order for midfield.

“He has to have the characteristics, and then I have to choose the player with the characteristics on how I see the game,” the 39-year-old explained.
“It is just like that and I have to make some choices, I want to play a game that is sometimes different from other coaches and I have to chose based on that. That’s all.”
Casemiro is currently on around £350,000-a-week at United, and the club are keen to move him on as soon as possible in order to reduce their monthly spending on wages and free up space for new signings.
