Manchester United ‘chasing’ Championship star as surprise Old Trafford exit outlined
Manchester United are reportedly looking to chase a Championship star next summer as a surprise exit from Old Trafford is outlined.
Manchester United are already looking at potential names they could sign in the summer of 2025 as the club continue to rebuild with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as the club’s new co-owner.
Last summer, Erik ten Hag brought in Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte as part of a summer revamp that also saw Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and others leave the club.

With the 2024 summer window closing at the end of last month, United are already being linked with a host of names for 2025, including Jarrad Branthwaite and Nico Williams.
However, according to a new report from The Sun, the Old Trafford outfit are also looking towards the Championship for home-grown talent and are looking to bring in a new second-choice goalkeeper to provide competition for André Onana.
The Sun claims that the club are monitoring 24-year-old Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
Should United sign Patterson, this would likely spell the end of the United career of Altay Bayındır, who has made just two appearances since signing for United in 2023.
Bayındır’s departure may be a little surprising since he signed a five-year contract just over a year ago, knowing he would be playing second fiddle to Onana.
Patterson has impressed scouts while in the Championship and has also been capped by England at the U21 level, and is also being chased by Crystal Palace and Liverpool, as well as United.
According to the report, Sunderland would be looking for a fee of around £20 million, but may accept lower than this.
