“After Ipswich…” Manchester United react to Rúben Amorim’s transfer demand with three-player list
Manchester United have reportedly reacted to Rúben Amorim’s transfer demand as they create a three-player target list for 2025.
With Rúben Amorim now at the helm as Manchester United‘s new head coach, sporting director Dan Ashworth and his recruitment team have started planning for the 2025 transfer window.
Amorim’s opening game saw the Red Devils draw 1-1 with Ipswich Town in the Premier League, with injuries causing multiple players to start in makeshift positions.

Diogo Dalot played as a left wing-back, while Noussair Mazraoui was a central defender, and Amad Diallo was covered as a right wing-back.
United had four centre-backs unavailable for Sunday’s game and have historically struggled to field left-backs in recent seasons. Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have suffered from injury issues in the last 18 months.
Amorim’s transfer demand
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Amorim has requested that United sign a new left-back in 2025. It is one of the few positions that United will definitely secure in the coming months.
“Manchester United will sign a new left-back,” Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel. “Rúben Amorim is playing with the back three, but Man United wants to go for a proper left-back.
“Rúben Amorim is very happy with Diogo Dalot in terms of the player [as he is] professional, can play several positions, is top leader, a big professional… but they need a player who can cover that position on a regular basis.
“A new player in that position, left-back, remains a top priority, and from what I’m hearing even after the Ipswich game, the message from Ruben Amorim to Manchester United management is we need a player in left position in 2025.
“Could be January, could be summer, based on opportunities, based on price, based on several factors, but Man United want to go for a player in that position.”
Three-player shortlist
Romano revealed that two players United are eyeing for the position are 21-year-old Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez and Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies.
Davies has been closely linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months, but Romano was keen to point out that although Los Blancos are there, no agreement is in place, and United remain in the race.
A third player who United have been linked to is AC Milan and France international Theo Hernández. German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg states that although Davies is the club’s priority, Hernández is also on the list.
Hernández has a contract with Milan until 2026, making him an attractive option in the summer. The Serie A giants would likely have to agree to a cut-price deal in 2025 to avoid losing him the following summer.
