Manchester United “hold talks” for transfer but facing stiff competition for £30m-rated free agent
According to new reports, Manchester United are “holding talks” over the possibility of signing a free agent, with Galatasaray potentially playing a significant role.
Manchester United engaged in a flurry of activity during the 2024 transfer window, significantly reshaping their squad at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag added fresh talent with the signings of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte, all arriving at Old Trafford during Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s first summer as co-owner of the club.

Meanwhile, the club parted ways with several notable players, including Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jadon Sancho, and Mason Greenwood, amassing over £120 million in transfer proceeds over the summer.
However, fresh reports from TeamTalk have claimed that United’s transfer business may not be over. Against Liverpool, Ten Hag’s men left a gaping hole in midfield, which was exploited, and many have regretted the fact that a second midfielder was not brought in.
Yet, according to the report above, United have “held internal evaluations” over the possibility of former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is now a free agent and, therefore, does not need to move in the transfer window to secure fresh employment.
Rabiot is reportedly rated as a £30 million player, making him the highest-value free agent currently available to be signed.
However, Newcastle United may be in the mix to bring Rabiot, while Galatasaray are currently the French international’s strongest suitors.
Galatasaray are also involved in another deal and are hunting another midfielder. Reports suggest that they are set to launch an ambitious bid to sign United’s 32-year-old Casemiro, although the Brazilian is not too keen to leave Old Trafford unless he is told he is not part of Ten Hag’s plans.
Should Casemiro depart before the Turkish window shuts on 18 September, this may spur United to step up their interest in Rabiot.
