Manchester United star wants more game-time under Erik ten Hag after “unsustainable” comment
One Manchester United star wants more game-time under Erik ten Hag after comments about his “unsustainable” role at the club.
Manchester United saw several key departures during the summer transfer window, with Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Mason Greenwood among those leaving the club.
It was considered one of United’s most successful windows in terms of sales, although several players the club was willing to offload remained.
Christian Eriksen, who started just 14 games across all competitions last season, is expected to play a similarly limited role this year following the arrival of Manuel Ugarte.
In an interview with Danish outlet Tipsbladet last season, Eriksen admitted his frustration with his lack of playing time at Old Trafford, saying he had been “unhappy” with the situation.
So far, the 32-year-old has played just four minutes in United’s first three Premier League matches of the new season.
Eriksen rejected several offers to leave the club during the summer transfer window but has reaffirmed his intentions to play more football.
Speaking to TipsBladet during the international break, Eriksen said: “I want to play more! I want to play something more.”
The midfielder, speaking on his performance for Denmark, added: “I just think that the last thing is missing. I think there were a couple of times when I could have done a little better in one way or another. But the body is fine, and there are no flaws.”
This follows on from Kjetil Knutsen’s comments as interim Denmark manager, where he claimed that Eriksen’s current role at Old Trafford is “unsustainable” if he wants to continue with the national team.
He told Bold: “It is clear that his current situation is unsustainable in the long run. I hope Christian will play football. Whether it’s at Manchester United or somewhere else, time will tell, the fact is that he has to play more.”
