Revealed: How much Manchester United have to spend this summer before possible £95m windfall
The amount of money Manchester United have to spend this summer before raising money through sales has been revealed, but a possible £95 million windfall may be heading their way.
Manchester United are expected to have another transfer window of needing to raise money through sales with the club’s latest financial papers showing they have very little in the bank.
This is something Rúben Amorim as echoed, with the 40-year-old head coach having explained earlier this month that the club will have to let players go in order to secure new recruits.
“Here is simple – to do something we need to sell players,” Amorim said to the press when asked how flexible the club can afford to be in the summer market.
United are looking to sign a new centre-back, deep midfielder, and left-back this summer, with the club also searching for a new striker and possible attacking midfielder, depending on sales.
How much United have this summer
The latest financial records have shown that, without Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £80 million cash injection earlier this season, United would have been left with just £15 million in the bank.
The club currently owe around £300 million in transfer fees, with just over half of this needing to be paid up this summer, which leaves Amorim with little in the bank for incomings.
According to iSport, United’s headroom for incomings ahead of the summer window may sit as low as £20 million to 30 million, which is not enough in order for Amorim to bring in the players he needs.
The club’s new transfer strategy is now focused on bringing in players who are in their early twenties for cheaper fees to develop the players into the stars needed at Old Trafford, with new signing Patrick Dorgu as an early example of this.
United hoping for possible £95m windfall
Although the initial figures are low, United hope that as much as £95 million can be made in the early week of the window, which would give Amorim a much-needed amount of cash.
United are set to receive £25 million from Chelsea Jadon Sancho one the window opens, as his current loan contract includes an obligation to buy for said price once the season ends.
Beyond this, Marcus Rashford’s current loan deal with Aston Villa contains a £40 million buy option. Even if the Premier League side does not activate this, it’s expected that Rashford will be sold with £40 million, the minimum United will accept.
Further, Mason Greenwood is attracting significant interest after a brilliant tart to live with Marseille. United have a 50% sell-on clause in their agreement with the Ligue 1 side, and with PSG offering a reported £62 million for the English winger, United may make up to £30 million on his sale.
Should Rashford and Greenwood’s sales go through alongside Sancho’s move to Chelsea, United may receive up to £95 million for the trio.
