Man Utd starlet ‘expected to leave’ Old Trafford in heartbreaking exit, coaches once compared him to Roy Keane

One Manchester United starlet is expected to leave the club in the summer despite being heavily rated in the Academy system before suffering injury problems.

When Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho broke through into the Manchester United first-team, there were some other names who looked destined to make that same move as well.

Dan Gore was awarded his debut under Erik ten Hag in September 2023 after hard work behind the scenes. The energetic midfielder had captained the Under-21s and was part of the 2022 FA Youth Cup winners side.

United signed Gore from Burnley in 2018 and he looked destined to become the next first-team regular at Old Trafford from the Academy, with coaches making comparisons with United legend Roy Keane as an all-action midfield player.

With there being immediate competition in the first-team at the club, the loan route seemed best for Gore to get that professional experience and he was sent to Port Vale in January 2024.

Injury issues led to the United starlet making just one appearance during that spell and a freak shoulder incident then ruled him out for the start of the next campaign.

United eventually tried for another loan move for the midfielder, sending him to Rotherham in January 2025 but similar issues came apparent. Gore has played twice for the League One outfit this season due to a foot problem.

Gore expected to leave United this summer

Gore is returning to fitness now but it seems like the 20-year-old’s career at Old Trafford is drifting away.

The latest reports from MailSport say that Gore is expected to leave the club in the summer on a permanent basis. It was added that Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers are among the clubs showing interest in taking Gore in the summer window.

For the player, it will feel like a heartbreaking exit from the club after being so close to breaking into the first-team at one point. But he needs to start rebuilding his career after these recent injuries.

Gore was involved in United training last week as he returns to full fitness and made an appearance off the bench for Rotherham on the weekend, but his United future seems to be coming to an end.

United talents looking to impress in pre-season

United have plenty of talent in their Academy system and there are other youngsters looking to make the step up into Ruben Amorim’s side ahead of next season.

The likes of Harry Amass and Chido Obi already seem to be members of the first-team squad.

Other talents like Bendito Mantato, Sekou Kone and Jack Fletcher could begin to get opportunities during a busy pre-season tour this summer.

The Reds currently have seven friendly games lined up across the summer – with two being played in the Far East straight after the season finishes.

Amorim will be looking to use these games as a chance to improve his squad while also assessing some of the exciting youth talent within the club.
