Manchester United look likely to lose attacking midfielder Shola Shoretire this summer with the club unable to agree on a new deal for the youngster.

Despite starting discussions over a new contract in January, Manchester United have been unable to tie Shoretire down, and according to Attacking Football, it is now likely he will leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

The 20-year-old United academy prospect has failed to break into the first team this season, in part due to the emergence of Omari Forson. He is reportedly looking to move on should an opportunity arise.

Losing an academy player for free would be a big problem for United who need to sell players if they hope to strengthen the squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Even if United are successful in extending Shoretire’s contract, he is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans and would, therefore, be sent out on loan.

However, after an unsuccessful loan with League One side Bolton Wanderers last season, where he scored just once in 16 appearances, it looks like Shoretire would prefer a permanent move if more regular minutes at United aren’t guaranteed.

In February 2021, at the age of 17, Shoretire made his debut in the Premier League against Newcastle United, becoming the second youngest player to play for the first team in the league’s history.

Just a week later, he put his name into the United’s record books again, this time as the youngest player ever to take the field in a European match for the team after making his debut in the Europa League fixture against Real Sociedad.

More recently, Shoretire has been a part of the Manchester United U21 squad, scoring 32 goals and assisting a further 20 in just 71 appearances.

However, the 20-year-old has not been in the U21 for the previous five matches, further pointing towards a fallout with the club that could suggest that a summer move is almost certain.
