Manchester United are hoping to lure Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo to the Premier League this summer.

Italian right-back Di Lorenzo will reportedly listen to offers from United, despite previously committing the rest of his career to Napoli.

The report comes from Naples daily newspaper Il Mattino who claim that Napoli’s poor season and a lack of clarity over the future of the club could tempt Di Lorenzo away from the Italian champions.

The 30-year-old signed a new deal with Napoli in August, seemingly committing the rest of his career to the Blues.

But, with Napoli currently sitting 8th in the Serie A table, having won the league last season, it is understandable why the Italian national captain may feel that a move elsewhere is best for his career.

Il Mattino claim that if he were to leave, then a move to the Premier League would be Di Lorenzo’s preferred option, with Aston Villa and United both with offers which ‘are on the table.’

Since 2019, Manchester United has relied solely on Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their right-back choices, except for the 2020/21 season, during which Dalot was loaned to AC Milan.

Although Dalot has impressed this season and established himself as the current first choice, Manchester United are clearly in need of at least one more first-team quality right-back and are expected to search for one this summer.

And with two goals and seven assists from 40 games this season, Di Lorenzo could perfectly complement the Manchester United line-up and strengthen their attacking threat.

However, while the signing of Di Lorenzo would be a massive boost for Manchester United, it is likely that this is nothing more than another internal conflict within Napoli and a move for the Italian may still be too difficult.
