Man Utd return for £50m midfielder despite £70m release clause, Rúben Amorim once called him “a special player”

Manchester United could be set to return to the transfer market for a £50m-rated midfielder, despite claims surrounding the player having a £70m release clause.

Manchester United’s start to the new Premier League season has been a mixed bag, although thanks to recent results, the Reds have now climbed up the table.

Ruben Amorim has managed to put together back-to-back league wins for the first time during his tenure, with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the weekend being the highlight of their season so far.

The Reds were given the lead by their summer signing Bryan Mbeumo, who has arguably been the most impressive of United’s new forwards, before Harry Maguire sealed the victory.

Despite improvements in recent weeks, it still seems that United will bring in a new midfielder when the January window comes around. One of their previous targets has reportedly reentered the frame.

United optimistic about Hjumland

According to reports from TeamTalk, United are optimistic about securing the services of Morten Hjumland, who was “absolutely loved” by Amorim during his time as the Sporting coach.

The Danish midfielder could be available for around £50 million, despite his £70 million release clause, as Sporting may be open to negotiations given their relationship with the United manager.

If the Reds were to pursue their former transfer target, he would likely come in as an alternative to Casemiro in the middle of the park, or he would allow for Bruno Fernandes to play slightly further forward.

At 26 years old as well, especially considering his familiarity with Amorim’s system, Hjumland may be a very smart addition who could potentially fit the mould at the club.

United’s midfield options

If United were to opt for the addition of Hjumland, this could potentially cause a domino effect regarding both their current midfielders and their potential future options.

As for their current midfielders, it could spell trouble for the future of Kobbie Mainoo, who is already struggling for game time even without the addition of a further midfielder.

Regarding any future additions, bringing in such a ready-made option, such as the Danish international, could mean that United sway away from the likes of Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton.

Given the current state of the United midfield, it is clear that a new profile, or a player such as Hjumland who is already familiar with the system, could greatly benefit Amorim’s side.
