One Manchester United star has blown a Premier League pundit away for an “absolutely perfect” moment against Leicester City.

Ruud van Nistelrooy‘s stint as Manchester United’s interim manager ended on a high note with a 3-0 triumph over Leicester City, led by an exceptional performance from Bruno Fernandes.

The captain opened the scoring with a precise strike from the edge of the box, set up by a slick backheel from Amad Diallo.

Fernandes was involved again just before half-time, as his header deflected off Victor Kristiansen’s knee and found its way into the net, giving United a comfortable lead.

In the final ten minutes, Alejandro Garnacho added the finishing touch with a brilliant curling strike, with Fernandes once more providing the assist. Manuel Ugarte and Amad also shone, earning well-deserved recognition for their displays.

An “absolutely perfect” moment

While Fernandes has rightly received a lot of praise for his brilliant game against Leicester, it was Noussair Mazraoui’s cross for the second goal that has garnered the praise of a Premier League pundit.

With United already one goal up, Mazraoui looked to find Fernandes for the second, and according to former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison, the cross that led to the own goal was “absolutely perfect.”

“The ball in from Mazraoui is absolutely perfect, and something that Man United don’t do often enough,” Hutchison told Premier League Productions.

“It takes a deflection before going in, but it’s all about the cross from the left.”

Van Nistelrooy’s assessment

Speaking to the press after the game, Van Nistelrooy was quick to praise his players for their performance against Leicester, explaining that his job as interim manager has been to reinstall belief into the side.

“You saw the class of the team in our goals, we also gave very little away,” he explained.

“We tried to stabilise after a difficult and emotional period. We wanted to get players performing at their best, we got the right feeling to them and got them believing in themselves.

“This spell was a big responsiblity, I took it very seriously. I wanted to help and get United into a better place, that was my goal. With three wins and a draw it’s a standard where you want to grow to as a club.

“The connection with the fans was there, I really felt it. This is what United is really about.”
