The Premier League have confirmed that Simon Hooper will officiate Manchester United’s clash with Newcastle United in their final fixture of 2024.

Manchester United are gearing up to face Newcastle United on Monday evening at Old Trafford, in what will be their final match of 2024. Rúben Amorim is under pressure to lift his side from 14th place in the Premier League table.

A dismal run of three straight defeats to Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wolverhampton Wanderers has left both the head coach and his players facing intense criticism, with lacklustre performances drawing frustration from fans.

The team are still adjusting to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, but repeated issues defending set pieces have been their undoing throughout the past month.

With the festive period in full swing, United have an opportunity to end the year on a high by securing a much-needed home victory. However, Newcastle, fresh off a resounding 3-0 midweek win over Aston Villa, promise to be formidable opponents.

The Premier League have confirmed who will officiate the fixture at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

Confirmed officials

Simon Hooper (pictured below) will be the referee on Monday evening in Manchester. Harrington has officiated 11 Premier League matches this season, three in the Championship and one in the Carabao Cup.

Hooper has not met United this season but officiated them four times last campaign, with the most memorable being a 2-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford.

So far this season, Hooper has issued 114 yellow cards in the Premier League and 144 across all competitions. He has issued three red cards, two of which came from second yellows and two penalties in the league.

During the game, Adrian Holmes and Simon Long will serve as Hooper’s assistant referees. Andy Madley will be the fourth official on Sunday afternoon, separating Amorim and Eddie Howe.

Paul Tierney has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Constantine Hatzidakis will act as assistant VAR.
